Trailer Home Visit

I captured this shot of my son with the reflection on the roof of the car while visiting a friend’s trailer style home during sunset a few weeks ago.

Rolling Pastures

Happy Hump Day everyone! Today I’d like to share an image taken while in the passengers seat with the window down, in freezing weather, going 70mph. We were driving along the highway in Cartersville Georgia and I noticed these cows at the last second. I quickly rolled down the window, aimed my phone and took the shot. This was the result. I thought it was kinda cool because of the motion blur in the foreground and along the fence. Due to our speed the fence appears to be slanted. Shots like this don’t come along as often as I’d like but, when they do I try hard to pay enough attention to try and capture them.

Evening Shell

I noticed this very tiny shell in my driveway while walking back from my mailbox. I took out my phone to shoot it but, the shell was so tiny I had to lay on the ground to get close enough. I thought that it was interesting because, despite only being about as big as a grain of sand, from it’s position on the ground the light from the setting sun hit it just right to expose the many fine details. I love discovering things that would typically go completely unnoticed.

Fan Favorite

This pic has been very popular on my other social sites so I thought I’d share it here. I shot this on Mother’s Day while walking around the downtown area checking out the construction to the new white water rafting park. The child in the shot seems so tiny in retrospect.

Water Bottle Macro

I was sitting in the car about to take a drink from my bottle of water when I noticed the cool looking pattern of water starting to build up on the outside of the bottle. I quickly grabbed my phone and took these shots. The first, clear one was shot straight through the bottle, and the blue colored one was shot with the label in the background.

Exploration Of Pretty Brown Eyes #1

I LOVE my daughters eyes! She gets her almond shaped extra light brown eyes from her mother and they are her stand out feature. I remember the day she was born, the nurse looked right at me and said, ” Oh my God, your daughter has the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen!” I agree, and trust me, she definitely knows exactly how to use them to get whatever she wants from me!!! 🙂 So when I decided to try out macro photography on my phone my daughter was right by my side. I forgot to mention she’s also my biggest fan! I remember I had taken a shot of a plant, the sun was shinning bright to the right of me and she asked me if she could see the picture? When I looked up the sun was shinning in her eyes and it was at that moment I realized that I should dedicate a series of photos to her lovely eyes. Well this is just one of many…funny thing is, she thinks they look gross because of all the details visible! “You did a good job Daddy” “You always do, but, the picture looks gross and scary!” Kids are so funny!

iPhone Macro Series: Ladybug #1

Hello Apple?! Can you hear me? As an exclusive user of your products since 1998 I think I need some type of endorsement or sponsorship for this shot!!! 🙂 It’s no secret to those that know me that I love my Apple products and I love my iPhone 5! As a camera it has proven to be a very useful tool, and pictures like this reinforce my belief. While no phone in my opinion can match a dedicated DSLR, the quality that our phones are capable of producing now is astounding! To think of how far camera-phone technology has come and continues to progress so rapidly is really a revelation. There will always be room for bigger more complex gear and even dedicated compact cameras, which are also on par with DSLR’s now, but for fast, free wielding ease of use the smartphone is definitely an immediate option. While it’s not always about the camera, but rather the camera operator, hopefully shots like these will prove what’s possible with our smart-phones, especially when we exercise our ability and a little patience.
