My Granny curiously watched me as I walked into the house, sat my bag down, unzipped the pouch, and took out my camera. She watched intensely as I removed the lens cap, then unscrewed the protective filter. She nervously stared at me as I approached her with my camera and after raising the the lens in her direction she quickly yelled, “I look a mess today, please don’t take my picture right now son!” Being the hard-headed child that I am I proceeded to snap anyway. Embarrassed, she looked right at me and asked, “why are you taking my picture?” I answered, “because, you’re beautiful and I love you!” Then I said, “I need these pictures to pass down to all the future generations of our family” “They need to know who the Queen of this family is” She smiled shyly then said, “ok son, go ahead” She has always spoiled me… She always lets me have my way and I’m happy that she does 🙂 This is real love!

These beauties only lasted a few short minutes so I had to act fast! I noticed their bright colors peeking through my window about 10 minutes ago. This past Saturday I spent almost 8 hours walking around by myself in the intense summer heat. I hadn’t been out to shoot in a while and I really needed to get out and do something to get my creativity flowing again. Despite the heat I started to have lots of fun. So much so that I totally forgot all about the weather and started to focus more on capturing images. I decided to let the colors of the park inspire me. Before I knew it I looked down at my phone and realized just how long I had actually been out. I was really shocked but, I guess when you’re truly enjoying yourself time is of little importance?
Apart from the photographic aspect of being outside on such massive terrain, this trip also provided me with an opportunity to be at peace mentally as well as be active physically. I love it when using my camera can become therapeutic. It can relax my mind, ease my tension and rejuvenate my spirit. It’s such a wonderful feeling when you can pick up your camera, discover an interesting location and just shoot uninterrupted at your own pace. No schedules, no time constraints, no people, no complaining…just you, your gear and the beauty of nature. I told myself that I would try to get out to more natural locations such as this one more often and try to reconnect with nature. I love finding the layers of hidden details within wooded areas such as this one. I have lots of photos from this outing that I hope to share over the coming weeks.
Here are just a few samples I worked on immediately after arriving back home. For anyone wondering, these are roughly straight out of the camera. The only adjustments I made were very minor brightness tweaks and slight shadow lifting.
